Two Children Being Treated For Life-Threatening Injuries After Manchester Hit and Run Crash

A suspect is in custody after fleeing the scene of several crashes in the Queen City — accused of leaving a trail of destruction, injuries.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police, firefighters, and AMR ambulance personnel responded to a report of several people injured spanning an area of six city blocks, beginning at Spruce and Belmont Streets, on Thursday afternoon. Manchester Police initially received reports of gunfire, which were unsubstantiated.

Manchester Police Chief Marr confirmed that a group of two children and an adult were struck by a silver vehicle on Belmont Street between Spruce Street and Lake Avenue.

The young child was in what appears to be a combined car seat and stroller. The seat the child was in was thrown and dragged approximately half a block; the child had just turned one year old. The child on the bicycle was struck and dragged a significant distance. Shoes, clothing, and parts from the bike and car seat were spread in a one-block area.

The suspect driving a silver sedan continued north and reportedly collided with a car at Belmont and Hanover streets, injuring himself and a person in a blue car.

Moments later, Manchester Police received calls regarding a significant crash at the intersection of Belmont Street and Hanover Street. Officers in the area located the crash and observed a male subject walking away from the scene. Manchester Police Officers eventually placed this male into custody for felony level Driving While Intoxicated.

Both reported crashes involved the exact vehicle, a silver Volvo SE, according to MPD Sgt Michael Donahue.

The two children were brought to the Elliot Hospital Trauma Center, where they are both being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Currently, the scene has shut down several streets, Belmont Street, Spruce Street, Lake Avenue, and Hanover Street, and is expected to be closed for several hours.

MPD Chief Marr confirmed there is no information that this is a targeted incident or a terrorist incident, which some people have been posting on social media. He also confirmed there is no evidence of shots being fired, which has circulated in unsubstantiated posts on social media.
