Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. Thanks to VHB Engineering of Bedford and the Durham public works department, the town of Durham expects to receive a $3.5 million federal grant to remove the controversial Mill Pond dam. Removal of the dam on Oyster River, originally built in the 1600s, also includes a fish ladder farther up the stream to address resident concerns about a University of New Hampshire dam. (Foster's Daily Democrat)
  2. We're all rushing for the holidays, but let's all drive safely! State police said they will have more patrols on the F.E. Everett Turnpike through the end of December to stop aggressive drivers. State troopers said they stopped a vehicle going 101 mph in Merrimack on Tuesday. By 10 a.m., more than 14,500 vehicles passed through the Bedford tolls, according to state police. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
  3. If you buy a Christmas tree or wreath from the Animal Rescue League of N.H. this holiday season, you'll be helping the pets at the shelter, including a dog named Puff Pastry. The ARLNH still has plenty of trees and wreaths available! Proceeds will benefit the animals, "including this sweet boy" (see Puff Pastry posing for photos here:) (Animal Rescue League of NH via Facebook)
