When is National Night Out?
2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the popular annual event.
National Night Out 2013 is scheduled for Aug. 6.
The annual event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), began in 1984 as America’s Night Out Against Crime in "an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back," according to NATW's website.
In Bedford, the community will celebrate the event at the town pool beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Bedford Police recently sent our a community message via Nixle describing the night as follows:National Night Out is an effort to heighten awareness and enhance community relations between emergency personnel. It’s also a great way to promote neighborhood camaraderie. Come see the Bedford Police Department take on the Bedford Fire Department in the annual softball game @ 5:30 at Selvoski field.
