Christian Cummings Sentenced For Death Of 18-Month Old Kamyrn In Weare

Guilty of negligent homicide and endangering a child, Cummings will serve 1.5 to 5 years in prison; mother faces trial in the death also.

MANCHESTER, NH — Christian Cummings, 23, the father of Kamryn, an 18-month-old who died of neglect in a Weare trailer, was sentenced to prison by Judge David Anderson.

Cummings was found guilty by a jury and convicted of negligent homicide in connection to the death. The toddler was infested with lice when she was found dead in her home on Valentine’s Day 2019. An autopsy determined she died from an untreated urinary tract infection. He also was found guilty of reckless conduct and endangering the welfare of a child. The prosecutor for Hillsborough County asked for a minimum of five and a half years.

Judge Anderson sentenced Cummings to 1½ to 5 years on the negligent homicide charge and gave him two suspended sentences on the two remaining, misdemeanor offenses. The suspended sentences will be in effect for five years after he is released from prison.

Cummings also received pre-trial credit of 144 days and could be out of prison in just under one year with the credit. Ironically the minimum prison sentence is the same as the age of the child when she died.

During a court recess, Cummings laughed and joked with one of his defense attorneys and tried to speak to a woman in the courtroom gallery. Hillsborough County Sheriffs warned Cummings to stop speaking to people in the courtroom.

Defense Attorney Theodore Lothstein asked for a sentence of 12 months in the Hillsborough County House of Corrections with an opportunity to suspend the remaining minimum balance upon admission into a residential substance abuse treatment program. Lothstein said that Cummings has a difficult childhood with his mother who died of an overdose and his father committed suicide.

Lothstein said the case was tragic for everyone. "Cummings’ father and mother failed to nurture him and teach him how to live, care for himself and how to be a loving and caring parent and how to take care of a young child.”

The child's mother, Mikayla Cochran, will be tried for her alleged role in Kamryn's death at a future trial.
