Officer Injured In Crash Recovering From Multiple Injuries

NH State Police continue investigating a crash which injured an officer after a Groton, Massachusetts, man struck him from behind.

DUMMER, NH — NH State Police are continuing their investigation of an OHRV accident which seriously injured Conservation Officer Matthew Holmes earlier this month.

The crash occurred while Officer Holmes was doing speed enforcement of OHRV’s in an area which has been the focus of complaints for speeding.

NH State Police Sgt. Nathan Hamilton said Ryan Gingras-Jodice, 23, of Groton, Massachusetts, was operating a 2020 Yamaha YXZ10 side by side when he struck Officer Holmes causing serious injuries. The OHRV operated by Gingras-Jodice was traveling at 65 mph, which is 40 mph over the 25 MPH posted speed limit.

Gingras-Jodice and two members of the group operating with him were issued summons by NH Fish and Game for speeding, no one in the group of three OHRVs were injured.

brought against the operator who struck the officer.

As a result of the collision, Holmes was ejected from his patrol All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and landed several feet from the impact site. NH State Police Trooper Brandon M. Girardi said Holmes suffered multiple injuries including several broken ribs.

Holmes was transported from the scene by Gorham Ambulance and taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. The injured Officer was then flown via a University of Vermont Health Network Critical Care Transport helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine.

Officer Holmes is featured frequently on the North Woods Law program.

Officer Holmes has been released from the hospital and is recovering from multiple injuries at his home. His recovery is expected to take several weeks, and will be unable to return to work until his recovery is complete.
