Epping Teen Charged After Exeter Crash Into Home

EXETER, NH – An Epping teen who was driving a car that rolled over and struck the side of a house on Main Street in Exeter Friday night is facing several charges, the Exeter Police Department said in a news release Monday.

Hermione H.A. Porter, 18, is facing charges including aggravated driving under the influence and reckless conduct after authorities found the car sitting up on its side against the home, which was significantly damaged, shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, police said.

Prior to the crash, an officer patrolling Epping Road spotted the car traveling more than double the speed limit of the posted 30-mile-per-hour zone, police said.

Police added that "the officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the car, which drove around another vehicle and into oncoming traffic while another vehicle was driving toward her."

But authorities lost sight of the car, which was not owned by Porter, police said. They soon received the report of the crash.

Porter was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The residents were home at the time of the crash, but were not injured, police said.

One of the residents told police he was walking to his kitchen when the car hit, causing him to fall to the ground. Another resident said she was upstairs when she felt the crash and was unable to walk down the stairs due to heavy damage to the staircase and second-floor landing.

The residents were temporarily displaced due to the structural damage, police said.
