Local Man Dies After Portsmouth Bar Assault

Joshua Krantz, 24, of Dover was found dead in his apartment on Saturday.

A Dover man was found dead in his apartment after he was allegedly assaulted at a Portsmouth bar early Saturday morning.

Joshua Krantz, 24, was found dead in his Dover apartment. An investigation by Portsmouth and Dover police revealed that the cause of death was a fractured skull, resulting in an acute epidural hematoma. The manner of death —homicide, natural causes, etc. — has been marked as pending investigation by the state medical examiner's office.

According to his obituary, Krantz was born in Exeter and grew up in Epping, graduating from Epping High School in 2006. He attended Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth and was working at Bottomline Technologies in Portsmouth at the time of his death.

Police said they have determined that Krantz was with friends at The Page on Hanover Street in Portsmouth on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning.  He was the victim of an assault on the lower level dance floor at The Page at approximately 12:43 a.m., according to police. The assault does not appear to have been provoked and does not appear to have involved a weapon. Krantz was struck repeatedly in the head. Police were not notified of the assault and Krantz did not receive medical treatment.

Detectives said they have identified a suspect and the investigation is ongoing.
