Seacoast Artist Association 'New England Summer' Awards Winners
SAA exhibiting member Dave Saums won SAA's Best in Show award for his photograph "Sunflower, Approaching Thunderstorm."
Press release from SAA:
The Seacoast Artist Association in Exeter, NH has announced their two winners from this month’s theme show “New England Summer.”
SAA exhibiting member Dave Saums won SAA's Best in Show award for his photograph "Sunflower, Approaching Thunderstorm." Dave tells us that he worked around this field of sunflowers in Stowe, Vermont during a rapidly-approaching thunderstorm. “My goal was to frame just this one sunflower against those menacing and rather purple-appearing storm clouds. Ran for the car as the downpours rolled in, just a few minutes later, as I hadn't realized how far I had walked in order to find just this one magnificent specimen!”

At their monthly Second Friday reception, attendees again chose Adele Buchwald for the People Choice award, this time for her painting "End of the Day.” Adele tells us, "I have spent my summers sailing the New England coast from Maine to Massachusetts. One late July afternoon I was on my boat in Perkins Cove, Ogunquit, Maine when the lobster boats had returned for the day. I was inspired to paint "End of the Day" to honor all the hard work that the Lobstermen and women go through after a busy day at sea. Lobster is such a huge part of the New England summer. The sun was low in the sky and had created such great shadows on the boat and in the reflections on the water."
The next theme show is the always popular “By the Sea.” Drop off is Saturday, July 30, 10-3, and all are welcome. Find the entry form, which can be filled out ahead of time, and more information at seacoastartist.org.
