EAST KINGSTON, NH — An East Kingston home is a "total loss" after being hit by a falling tree that landed near the bedroom where both residents were sleeping Thursday morning, fire officials said.

The tree struck a home in the 100 block of Depot Road around 8:06 a.m. as a storm passed through the area, according to officials.

Both residents and their pet cat were able to exit without injuries, though the home is heavily damaged and the residents displaced.

"I encourage all residents to remain alert during today's storm," Chief Warren of the East Kingston Fire Department said. "High winds and rains can cause unexpected and often disastrous weather, I urge everyone to stay safe."
