MANCHESTER, NH — Eversource is moving another new transformer from one part of New Hampshire to the other — this time on Tuesday.

Originally, the plan was to move the transformer on Thursday. But the move was postponed due to the weather.

The transformer, a large piece of electrical equipment, is nearly 15 feet tall, 37 feet long, 12 feet wide, and weighs 59 tons. It will move from Hooksett to Hampton between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. A special truck and trailer, measuring about 145 feet in length and weighing more than 110 tons, is required to transport the device, William Hinkle of Eversource stated.

“The spare transformer is a backup for the currently operating transformer and will only be placed into service when the current transformer is retired or in need of emergency capacity,” he said. “The transformer adjusts the voltage of electricity from the power grid.”

Hinkle said the transformer will leave Hooksett Rail Siding on Depot Road in Hooksett and drive onto Martins Ferry Road, Route 27 east, Route 28B south, and Auburn Road. From there, it will take Route 101 east from Exit 2 to Exit 11. The transformer will continue onto Portsmouth Avenue to Route 88 south to Route 27 east until the Timber Swamp substation in Hampton.
