Driver Rolls Truck on 101 While Catching Cars That Passed Him

The vehicle flipped at least once before coming to a rest on its roof within a line of trees not far from Hampton Beach.

No one was injured Sunday night when an area man rolled his vehicle into a line of trees while allegedly trying to catch up with two vehicles that passed him at the Landing Road lights on Route 101 in Hampton.

Lt. Dan Gidley said a 2007 Toyota truck driven by Jason Wooles, 31, of Hampton Falls, was allegedly at a stop at the Landing Road lights while traveling east on Route 101 toward Hampton Beach around 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

The two vehicles behind Wooles allegedly passed his stationary vehicle when Wooles failed to resume driving after the light turned green. Gidley said a witness reported that Wooles may not have seen the light turn from red to green because he may have been "preoccupied" with something.

A short time later, the witness reported seeing Wooles and his vehicle "come flying up from behind them" on Route 101, according to Gidley. Wooles allegedly attempted to pass the two vehicles that had been behind him at the light by driving in the westbound lane, although Gidley said Wooles allegedly lost control of his vehicle while doing so.

Wooles' vehicle rolled over at least once and came to a rest on its roof off the roadway at least 200 to 500 feet east of the Landing Road lights, according to Gidley.

Wooles allegedly refused medical treatment at the scene for minor facial injuries.

The accident is still under investigation. Gidley said the "potential is there for charges," although none had been issued as of Monday morning.

Gidley said Wooles' vehicle was "probably totaled" during the crash. No one else was injured, and no other property was damaged.
