Mom Who Tried to Kill Kids with Bleach to Claim Insanity?

Wendy Wright, 33, allegedly had no "criminal purpose" when she tried to "save" her children by feeding them "medicine" that turned out to be bleach.

The lawyer representing a Seabrook mother charged with force-feeding her children bleach has filed paperwork claiming his client's actions had no "criminal purpose" and that he may use an insanity defense if the case goes to trial, according to the Union Leader.

Wendy Wright, 33, of 15 True Road, faces life in prison if convicted on two attempted murder charges for making her 7-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son drink bleach on June 18 after telling them it was "medicine."

Wright also ingested bleach on June 18, and she was hospitalized for several weeks after the incident. Police have said they overheard Wright claim, "I don't want to live," and, "I really love my kids but I wanted to save them from everyone else," while at Wright's home on June 18.

Wright, who is free on $25,000 bail, has pleaded not guilty to the crimes, for which she was indicted earlier this year. She also faces attempted first-degree assault charges.

Public Defender Tony Naro argues against Wright's charges in the court paperwork he filed on behalf of his client.

"If she acted as alleged in the indictments, she was not criminally responsible for such conduct because she was suffering from mental illness," Naro said in the court paperwork, according to the Union Leader.
