  1. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy will be hosting a talk on Tuesday, July 26 at 7 p.m. to raise awareness and inspire conservation at Goffstown Library. As part of the Summer Experience Program, join the Goffstown Library for "an evening on the cutting edge of shark conservancy and research." A representative of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy working off the coast of Cape Cod will give a talk about topics that range from the public perception of sharks to their impact on the marine ecosystem and New England seaside communities. Reservations are required. Contact: Liz Erickson of Adult Programs, 603-497-2102, or email elizabethe@goffstownlibrary.com. (Burbio)
  2. A contract worth $30 billion for Lockheed Martin's next F-35 stealth jet may be awarded soon—and that may be good news for New Hampshire. The exact number of next-generation fighter jets was not disclosed, but "will be provided once the contract is awarded," Lockheed Martin officials said. The contract could come as soon as "this summer or early fall," said the official, who asked not to be identified. The new F-35 jet will have secret components that are manufactured in New Hampshire. Lockheed Martin has a location in Nashua. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
  3. Lifeguards in Manchester have more than a summer job, said the city aquatics supervisor, Bob Ouellette. They act like First Responders, he noted. Lifeguards at Manchester city pools are busy in crowded pools on hot days keeping children and older adults safe. Ouellette said he worked as a lifeguard for the city in the 1970s. After retiring from a career in education, he took a job overseeing the pools. He said that most of the lifeguards, who can be as young as 16, have starting pay at $16.25. Many said they have been involved in an active rescue, "where someone was flailing their arms, struggling, yelling for help and in trouble." (Subscription/The Union Leader)
