Here are the top three stories today in Manchester:
- Organizers of the Gail Singer Memorial Blood Drive held a kickoff event Tuesday to encourage local residents to once again "answer the call" to blood donation at this year's event. The annual blood drive in Manchester has become the largest blood donation event in the United States. This year's event will take place at the Manchester Hilton Doubletree Hotel on Aug. 24 and 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Manchester Ink Link)
- A local World War II veteran and COVID-19 survivor has passed away at the age of 97. Manchester resident Leo Buote, who served in the Navy during the war, passed away peacefully at the Hanover Hill nursing home last week. A celebration of his life will be held at Billy's Sports Bar in Manchester next month. (WMUR 9)
- The U.S. Marshals Service has located and arrested an escaped prisoner who fled the nearby Belknap County Jail on Monday night. Officials say the prisoner, Peter John Dibiaso,
broke through an unalarmed door at the jail and scaled a 10-foot fence to escape, prompting a manhunt across the state. He was located with a stolen vehicle in Corning, New York shortly after noon on Wednesday, where he was arrested without incident. (Manchester Information via Facebook)
