Here are the top 3 stories in Manchester today:

  1. Merchants Motors of Hooksett has been purchased by Bain Capital—the company founded by U.S. Senator Mitt Romney, and Abu Dhabi investments. Merchants Motors, known for selling used cars, includes its parent company, Merchants Auto Group, which is the fourth-largest commercial car fleet management company in the United States. CEO Brendan Keegan and Senior Vice President John Cail oversee the business that leases thousands of commercial vehicles to businesses nationwide. The Singer family had been looking to exit the business, Keegan said, and "decided that they would sell when the time was right.” (Manchester Ink Link)
  2. There will be fewer "surprise" medical bills thanks to a new law sponsored by Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.). The No Surprise Act law states that patients treated at certain medical facilities by an out-of-network provider will be billed in-network. But Senator Hassan is pushing the Biden Administration to cover more types of care facilities. “Patients shouldn’t need to question every doctor and nurse who treats them," or sort through regulatory language to determine if a facility where they are being treated is covered by the law, Hassan wrote in a letter Friday. 3. Have you wondered what ever happened to the big plans for the Market and Main development project in Bedford next to Trader Joe's? Construction has finally started on phase two of the Market and Main project after a six year delay. The new development will include restaurants, retail shops, and outdoor and an outside walking area. There will also be a "barn-like structure" visible from Route 293 that will be an open space with a fire pit for outdoor gatherings. The new movie theater, parking garage, and hotel are no longer in the plans, but an office building may be part of phase three. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
