- The Candy Kingdom, located in a two-story pink building on Harvard Street just off of Union Street, announced they will be closing at the end of the month. Owners Dick and Phyllis Capers opened the store in 1993. In a note on Facebook the Caper's expressed their gratitude to customers saying, "With all the love in our hearts we say 'thank you.'" - A proposed mural on the Merrimack River stairs at Arms Park by Manchester Connects was recommended by the Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen Committee on Lands and Buildings Tuesday night. The proposal would allow a mural to be painted on the steps by artist James Chase, who has painted other murals across the city. The committee approved the recommendation in a non-unanimous voice vote. The full Board of Mayor and Aldermen have to vote on final approval of the beautification plan. - Swimming, fishing and boating on New Hampshire lakes, ponds and rivers may be impacted by climate change due to increasing levels of bacteria threatening native plants and fish, scientist recently warned. Amanda McQuaid, a specialist in ecotoxicology and professor of lake ecology at the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, said bacterial levels have been rising. Andrea LaMoreaux, president of New Hampshire Lakes, said that rain from bigger storms increases the amount of rain runoff that adds to the problem. She said Granite Staters can help by adding native plants to their backyard. You can read more here: (WMUR)
