- Join in on the Earth Day Neighborhood Clean-Up in Manchester on Saturday, April 23. Mayor Joyce Craig announced Earth Day Neighborhood Clean-Up Day. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up neighborhoods across the city. The Department of Public Works will be at four elementary schools from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. with cleanup supplies, including trash bags and gloves, and will be the drop-off location for all collected trash and materials. Look for DPW Earth Day stations at Jewett Street School, on 130 South Jewett St.; Northwest Elementary, on 300 Youville St.; Smyth Road School, on 245 Bruce Road; and Beech Street School, on 333 Beech St. You can read more here: (Facebook)
- Spirit Airlines announced a new nonstop beach destination: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Spirit Airlines is the newest carrier offering service at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. “It’s an exciting time to add service in Manchester as guests are looking for great leisure destinations to explore,” said John Kirby, vice president of network planning at Spirit Airlines. Yesterday, Travelocity advertised flights from Manchester to Myrtle Beach for $62. You can read more here: (Fly Manchester)
- Manchester police want new technology this summer to detect gunshots in the city that, in theory, can prompt quicker police response times. The Manchester Police Department is working with U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH), to get a $300,000 federal grant to cover the cost of a two-year trial. ShotSpotter uses audio sensors on top of light posts and buildings to detect gunfire, alerting police. Manchester Police Chief said in a presentation to city aldermen this week, “Many shootings are never reported to the police.” What about other loud noises, like fireworks?
