Here are the top stories today in Manchester:

  1. Ten world-class master sculptors are "starting to make their mark on the sand" as they work on creating masterful works of art at the annual Hampton Beach sand sculpting contest that is already underway. The Hampton Brand sculpting classic attracts artists from across the country who are competing for more than $25,000 in prize money. The top prize is $6,000, and prizes will be handed out on Saturday. Free lessons to learn how to sculpt sand are being offered by the artists. People of any age can sign up for a lesson on-site Saturday morning. (WMUR)
  2. Expect unseasonably cool temperatures this weekend. A "strong cold front" arrived Friday after a warm and humid day, bringing much cooler air that feels more like fall temperatures over the weekend, said WMUR meteorologist Kevin Skarupa. Highs on Saturday are expected to be in the 60s. Father's Day "has a chance of showers" with mainly cloudy skies and" highs only in the 60s again," said Skarupa. (WMUR)
  3. For the past 13 years, Honor Flight New England flew veterans are able to travel to Washington, D.C., all expenses paid, to see monuments put up in their honor. The first flight from Manchester on June 13, 2009, brought 50 veterans, including 14 prisoners of war and five veterans of World War II, including one who lost his sight serving his country, to Washington D.C. free of charge. Since then, Honor Flight New England has made 60 trips, bringing 2,168 veterans to our nation’s capital. Joe Byron, founder and executive director of the New England chapter, "hasn’t missed a flight." (Manchester Ink Link)
