- An iconic downtown Manchester restaurant was damaged by a kitchen fire on Monday. Firefighters were called to the fire at Caesario's Pizza and Subs on Elm Street at about 1:15 p.m. Fire crews battled the blaze, which caused "significant damage" with visible flames and a lot of smoke. Firefighters contained the fire by about 2 p.m., and Battalion Chief Bob Beaudet said the apartments above the restaurant weren't damaged," but they did get a lot of smoke inside." (WMUR)
- Manchester dog-lovers, there's a new summer sport making a big splash: Dock Diving. American K9 Country in Amherst made a big splash this weekend when they recently hosted a dog Dock Diving competition. Amber McCune, general manager of American K9 Country, said they started offering dock diving classes "about 6 years ago." McCune said they built a state-of-the-art outdoor dock and pool for dog dock diving classes and competitions. She added, “People love it. Dogs are addicted to it!” (Subscription/The Union Leader)
- How can you avoid harmful cyanobacteria before you go swimming in New Hampshire lakes and ponds? N.H. Lakes President, Andrea LaMoreaux, said one of the best ways to avoid toxic bacteria is to watch the weather! Recent testing revealed that "heavy rains" can increase the levels of runoff and toxic bacteria in the water. People and pets should avoid jumping in a lake or pond right after heavy rain. LaMoreaux also said to look for state water advisories, posted warning signs, and not to swim if the water looks murky and you think there may be a bacteria bloom.
