Here are the top stories today in Manchester:

  1. A raging fire in the White Mountains has already burned 106 acres of New Hampshire forrest in Crawford Notch State Park. The Park, home to wildlife, waterfalls, hiking trails, and sweeping mountain views, has a complex of three fires burning, collectively called the Bemis Fire, which was only 25% contained Monday evening. The largest fire, called the Alpha fire, torched 58 acres, the Bravo fire burned 16 acres, and the Charlie fire burned about 35 acres, officials said. The three fires started around the same time, officials said. Adrian Reyes, of the New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands, noted that the fires are burning on steep terrain making them difficult to fight. The fires would have been much worse if it hadn't rained on the first day, Reyes said. Firefighters are working to put out the remaining fires "before conditions get very dry again. (WMUR)
  2. After a record-breaking 87-degree day in May on Saturday, and thunderstorms and rain Monday night, the weather outlook this week is a return to more normal temperatures. Tuesday will be cooler with some sun, breezy, and pleasant with a High of 71, and winds W 10-20 mph. Tuesday night will be cloudy and mild. Wednesday will be another pleasant day that will be breezy with some sun. High 70, winds NW 10-20 mph. The weather may be nice, but officials remind everyone who visits lakes, the ocean, or spends time near the water this week to keep in mind that entering cold bodies of water can lead to cold-water shock. The ocean temperature is 47 degrees and Lake Winnipesaukee is 47 degrees. (Manchester Ink Link)
  3. Patients will soon have the right to be with a loved one in the hospital after loved ones had to "die alone" in the hospital during the pandemic. Legislators reached an agreement for a bill on Monday that will give patients the right to designate a loved one to be with them. Part of the agreement allows hospitals can require visitors to follow safety protocols, like wearing masks and gowns. Lawmakers and physicians are supporting legislation.
