Here are the top stories in Manchester today:
- The Queen City has a thriving entertainment scene this weekend. Catch live music performances in Manchester on Saturday night at places like the Backyard Brewery, The Foundry, and the Derryfield Country Club, Murphy's and Strange Brew Tavern. The Palace Theatre features comedy Saturday night, and "The Producers" runs through May 15. Saturday night a jazz quartet will perform at the Palace Theatre Spotlight room, and if you love British classic rock music, The British Invasion will be at the Rex Theater this weekend. - And the winner is... the Taco Tour! More than 60 restaurants participated in the downtown area Cinco De Mayo Taco Tour Thursday. Elm Street was closed to traffic as restaurants offered a variety of $3 tacos to long lines of enthusiastic taco-lovers. The Bookery on Elm Street even had a "World Taco" (a book) —a fun and creative idea! The restaurant with the most votes by participants will win a trophy and $1,000 to donate to the chary of their choice. If you didn't vote yet, you can find the link here: (Facebook)
- The minimum wage for full-time city employees increased to $15 an hour. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the increase on Tuesday. Five full-time city employees that earned less than $15 an hour were happy to hear the news! The positions included a customer service representative, a library clerk, two office assistants, and a parking maintenance worker. (Facebook)
- The final survivor from the 1934 Hindenburg, Werner Gustav Doehner, who lived in New Hampshire, died at the age of 90 years old in his Laconia home in November 2019. Friday, May 3 marked 85 years since The Hindenburg caught on fire and crashed trying to dock in New Jersey, causing 35 deaths. (WMUR)
