- If you already paid off your student loan, you may still be able to get a refund. According to the Rosen Report, many people who paid off student loans during the "payment pause" of the pandemic can still apply for the federal loan forgiveness program. Financial expert Peter Dunn, CEO of Your Money Line and the host of the Pete the Planner Show, explained "you can still qualify for a refund for any payment (including auto-debit payments) that you made during the payment pause dating back to March 13, 2020." So, if that's you, be sure to apply for the student loan refund program. Applications are expected to be out by mid-October. (WMUR)
- There were several rare bird sightings in New Hampshire this week. The New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, Aug. 29 said that two American oystercatchers and three Arctic terns were spotted at the Isles of Shoals, and a western sandpiper was seen at Meadow Pond in Hampton on Aug. 26. Have you heard of a Dunlin? This rare bird was seen in Hampton Harbor on Aug. 29. Bird observers also saw a white-rumped sandpiper at the Pickering Ponds in Rochester on Aug. 27. Closer to home, an adult red-headed woodpecker was photographed at a private residence in Merrimack on Aug. 29 — just to name a few New Hampshire bird visitors. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
- People are questioning if the legal system failed a 75-year-old man stabbed to death while he was out for a walk near a public Manchester trail where he lived. A homeless man, Richard Moore, 40, from Mississippi, is accused of fatally stabbing Daniel Whitmore. Moore arrived in Manchester in July, and faced multiple felony charges that included an attempted stabbing in Manchester in July, and other charges in Nashua in August. He was released on bail just three days before he murdered Whitmore. People who walk on the Manchester trail are angry and wonder if they are safe with the many homeless camps in the area. (Patch)
