Here are the top stories today in Manchester:

  1. For the first time in almost five years, starting June 3, American Airlines will fly their larger Airbus 319 airplanes from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport to Charlotte, the airline announced on the MHT website. The new route will almost double the number of available seats to Charlotte! Also on June 3, MHT announced new nonstop flights to the Chicago O'Hare airport, after a 6-month pause. Things are looking up! (Fly Manchester)
  2. Homeless residents temporarily living at the Manchester Street shelter are at the top of the list for 11 new, affordable studio and one-bedroom Union Street apartments. The apartments unveiled Tuesday are in a three-story building that was the former city’s emergency shelter for women, known as Angie’s Place, that closed before the pandemic. The $1.9 million project was funded through HUD, New Hampshire Housing, and $690,000 was awarded by the city through the federal HOME program. Families in Transition President and CEO Maria Devlin called the successful project "a blueprint" they will continue to replicate "to make a real impact." 3. Merchants Auto announced they have deals with Ford, GM, and other electric automakers so they will be able to provide all types of electric vehicles to their clients, said Hari Nayar, vice president for fleet electrification and sustainability at Merchants Auto. Demand for electric vehicles has far outpaced supply, Nayar said. He noted that EVs "avoid the problem of high gas prices" and can also support electric utilities in "vehicle-to-grid two-way electric vehicle charging" — a process where electric vehicles can provide energy to charging stations if, for example, a solar plant has cloud coverage, and their production drops off. Thousands of EVs in the area can be "called to action" to support the grid until the cloud coverage moves away, Nayar explained. You can read more about this story here: (WMUR)
