  1. Civics, the study of government, and "how America's truly remarkable democracy works" needs to be taught in the classroom, said Elizabeth Dubrulle, the director of education and public programs for the New Hampshire Historical Society of Manchester. She observed that children who visit the historical society on field trips "seem to know less and less about the founding of the country and the functioning of our democracy." One reason is that standardized tests over the past 20 years have emphasized English, math, and science, and not government and civics, she noted. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
  2. Have you noticed more tails wagging in the Queen City lately? It may be from the recent puppy boom! Granite Staters were home for months during the height of the pandemic giving them more time to expand their family and bring a new pet into their homes! The result is more tails happily wagging in the Queen City. (WMUR)
  3. New apartments are being proposed in Manchester. Find out how our cityscape may change at the next Public Hearing on Thursday, July 7 at 6 p.m. The Planning Board will hear applications for "new apartments and ADUs." If you can't attend in person, the meeting will also be televised on Channel 22, Manchester Public Television. (Manchester Ink Link)
