Here are the top stories today in Manchester:
- A new cricket team may be coming to Manchester! A group of enthusiastic cricket players hope to grow the popular British sport in Manchester. What you may not know is that cricket is "the second most popular sport in the world, next to soccer." On Memorial Day, about 20 international students gathered to play this fun and entertaining game at the baseball field in Livingston Park. Rama Rao Pavuluri, 25, a graduate from Plymouth State University, organized the Manchester cricket group with Navi Avhad, 32, in early May through Whatsapp. The Merrimack Cricket League has about 35 teams "mostly in the Boston area," he said, but New Hampshire does not have an official cricket team. Pavuluri and Avhad would like to see that change. You can read more about this story here: (Manchester Ink Link)
- If you bought organic California strawberries under the brand names of Kampo or HEB between March 5 and April 25, the FDA warns they may be contaminated with Hepatitis A. Seventeen people became ill with Hepatitis A in California, Minnesota and North Dakota, sending 12 people to the hospital. The strawberries are past their shelf life, but anyone who may have frozen the affected strawberries should not eat them and immediately throw them away, the FDA said. The strawberries were sold at Aldi, HEB, Kroger, Safeway, Sprouts Farmers Market, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Weis Markets and WinCo Foods. (WMUR)
- If you are looking for a smaller, intimate venue to enjoy music performances, you may want to check out the Spotlight Room at the Palace Theatre. When a bar next to the Palace Theatre closed in 2018, the Palace remodeled the space and kept the original tin ceilings and giant, street front windows to create The Spotlight Room, that can hold up to 130 guests, they said on their website. The next show in June is a nonprofit charity fundraiser by Mathews Entertainment called The Frank Sinatra Seriously Frank National Tour, with two shows on June 10. Tickets can be purchased directly by the event organizer and are not being sold through the Palace Theatre. You can find out more about this event here: (The Palace Theater)
