Here are the top stories in Manchester today:

  1. Many older hotels in New Hampshire are not required to have sprinklers, fire officials said, following a blaze at the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort in North Conway Saturday that burned down a 75-room wing. The fire displaced 150 guests, some climbing down outside balconies. The wing was built in the 1970s. Town ordinances to install sprinkler systems can be stricter, said the town's emergency management director, Steve Solomon, but it can cost "hundreds of thousands of dollars," which some lodging establishments would not be able to afford. 2. If you're a fan of British classic rock music, you won't want to miss the British Invasion Saturday night at the Rex Theater in Manchester. The tribute to British bands will feature the most popular musical influences and singers in a high energy concert. Listen to your favorite songs from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Police, The Zombies, and Led Zeppelin — just to name a few. British Classic Rock will be live on stage at the Rex on Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m. (The Palace Theater)
  3. A shout out to Highland-Goffe's Falls. Students cheered when they learned that Highland-Goffe's Falls won the Top Elementary School award for 2022. Students, who were excited to gather in the gym on Tuesday, were surprised by the news. The Excellence in Education Awards presentation was on Teacher Appreciation Day, with Mayor Joyce Craig and Interim Superintendent Jenn Gillis joining in. Principal Susan Matthews noted teaching is a profession that can "change lives for the better" and "make a difference in the lives of our students." (Manchester Ink Link)
