Republicans seemed poised to expand their control of the state Senate as results continued to trickle in Wednesday afternoon.

As of 3:30 p.m., the Associated Press had called the races for 12 Republicans and 7 Democrats. Republicans led all but one of the five uncalled contests, in District 20, and maintained leads in two seats currently held by Democrats — Amherst Sen. Shannon Chandley in District 11 and six-term Manchester Sen. Donna Soucy in District 18 — where the Republican competitors had claimed victory by Wednesday morning.

If those leads hold, and other races shape up as expected, Republicans could expand their current 14-10 control of the Senate to a veto-proof majority of 16-8.
