Here are the top stories today in Manchester:
- Did you notice a new EV pump at Hannaford off outh Willow Street? The first Volta EV electric car charging station was unveiled at Hannaford supermarket on John E. Divine on May 12. Manchester's Mayor Joyce Craig praised Hannaford and Volta for "investing in a sustainable future." Hannford said they're goal is to achieve "zero food waste-to-landfill" with a commitment to 100 percent renewable energy by 2024. Hannaford already has 163 charging stations at 31 store across the northeast, with additional New Hampshire charging stations planned. (Manchester Ink Link)
- Heading to Chicago just got a lot easier! American Airlines has resumed nonstop flights to Chicago O'Hare from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. If that was enough good news, this summer, American Airlines will also begin flying larger A319 planes to Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, North Carolina a few times a day. It looks like the summer will be a great time to travel. (Facebook)
- A shout out to N.H. Fish & Game for rescuing three separate hikers on one very busy Saturday! The first rescue was near the summit of Mt. Cube in Orford at about 12:40 p.m. Rescuers called in a New Hampshire Army National Guard helicopter to help rescue a 73-year-old hiker Manchester man with an unknown medical emergency. While crews were helping with the rescue in Orford, Fish and Game received two separate calls for injured hikers, one from Pelham, New Hampshire, and one from New York, on Bridle Path in Franconia. A group of more than 30 rescuers and a few Samaritans were able to help the hikers, who had lower leg injuries. Way to go, New Hampshire rescuers and good Samairtans! And thank you, New Hampshire Fish and Game. (WMUR)
