  1. Hillsborough County, which includes the city of Manchester, is making good use of its share of the $263 million windfall from President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act. One significant project will be adding a greatly needed HVAC system, estimated to cost about $10 million, to replace window air conditioners, improve air quality and prevent the spread of COVID-19. All 10 New Hampshire counties are finding creative ways to spend their share of the funding on projects ranging from new buildings (that provide more space for social distancing) to sending a weekly check for frontline workers (who were victims of the pandemic economy). 2. The Manchester-Boston Regional Airport will receive more than $4 million to improve the airport terminal as part of the almost $1 billion Infrastructure Law. The Federal Aviation Administration will award funding to 85 airports across the country as part of the bipartisan bill to improve airport terminals across the country. The grants can be used to increase capacity, improve energy efficiency, promote competition and make airports more accessible for people with disabilities. The federal grants will help improve airports, "while also creating good jobs in communities across the country,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
  3. Be prepared to stop. That's what drivers can expect from time to time as blasting continues over the next three months on the Everett Turnpike in Bedford, according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. Rock blasting began July 7 on the turnpike on the northbound lane, just before the intersection of I-293. Work crews are blasting through the large mountain of granite to make way for new travel lanes. Blasting is scheduled intermittently on weekdays, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and will take place north of Bedford Exit 13, just before reaching Manchester. The $20.5 million project is "scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024." (Manchester Ink Link)
