- A new trail in Manchester on Country Side Boulevard is designed for everyone enjoy the beauty of nature — and it's only a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of Manchester. The new "Cedar Swamp" All Persons Trail provides easy trail access to Cedar Swamp. The trail, that opened on Earth Day 2022, is designed to provide easy access for everyone. The 1.2 mile trail is "dotted with resting benches" and points of interest, said The Nature Conservancy. The trail is just minutes from bustling downtown Manchester. The Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire constructed the trail at the Manchester Cedar Swamp with the hopes of introducing this "hidden ecological gem" to visitors of all abilities and comfort levels. - The SNHU arena in Manchester drew thousands for a commemoration of the life of Staff Seargent Jesse Sherrill. Sgt. Sherrill, a trooper of 19 years, married, and the father of two boys, was killed last fall when a truck driver with marijuana in his system slammed into his New Hampshire State Police cruiser parked on the side of the road on Interstate 95, according to indictments issued this month. New Hampshire State Police Col. Nathan A. Noyes released a statement Tuesday saying, “Staff Sgt. Sherrill is missed each and every day by his family, friends and State Police colleagues.” (Subscription / The Union Leader)
- Tornados in New Hampshire are not common, but they do happen. The National Weather Service confirmed that a funnel cloud with wind speeds of 90 mph touched down in Charlestown, just south of Claremont, New Hampshire, during heavy rains and severe thunderstorms Monday night. The EF1 tornado knocked down a thousand trees along a 36-mile path from Charlestown to Langdon, Acworth, Lempster, Bradford, and Warner, ending near Route 127 in Webster. Another tornado in August of 2020 briefly touched down in Central Ossipee causing minor tree and structural damage. Investigators also confirmed that a waterspout formed over Lake Winnipesaukee in 2020, and a microburst passed through Wolfeboro, during a wild weather day in the Lakes Region. (The Union Leader)
