- If you notice dead trees along the Everett Turnpike, it's from the recent drought— but that's not the only danger. New Hampshire's trees are having a tough time from the long-lasting drought. The drought weakens trees, so they are more susceptible to insects and disease, also raising the risk of power outages from falling limbs. Utilities were out this week trying to clear weakened tree limbs. Utilities are responsible for maintaining the main power lines in Manchester, but not the lines running from the pole to a home or building. "Anyone with questions about trees on their property should contact a certified arborist." (WMUR)
- If you're looking for live entertainment in the Queen City, you don't have to go far! On Friday, see Tom Rousseau at The Hill Bar & Grill starting at 5:30 p.m. If you're looking for a lounge feel, see Just Jordan who is playing upstairs at Fratello's in Manchester at 6 p.m. The Derryfield has live entertainment with Off The Record at 8 p.m., or you can stop by to see the Gavilformes at Shaskeen at 9 p.m. to River Sang Wild at the Strange Brew Tavern. Murphy's downtown also has live entertainment with Whatsername at 9:30 p.m. You may even be able to catch a sidewalk musician playing downtown. Check out what's happening here: (Manchester Ink Link)
- Remember the Victorian houses that burned to the ground at the corner of Maple and Hanover Street? The fenced-in lot now overgrown with weeds may finally have another apartment building in its place after The New Hampshire Housing Appeals Board reversed the denial of a building permit. Attorney Roy Tilsley of Bernstein Shur Law Firm argued the board “erred when it denied the administrative appeal” for the 12-unit apartment building that was proposed on the vacant lot last November. Tilsley said his clients will start construction after all the final appeals. In a phone interview, Tilsley said, “We are looking forward to getting something on the site, which we think the city really needs.” (Subscription/The Union Leader)
