- Business and hospitality are booming in New Hampshire! The state reported that business and hospitality taxes are the driving force behind an "overheated" revenue stream that will top $400 million in May. With only one month remaining in the 2022 fiscal year, New Hampshire had a $24.3 million revenue surplus, putting the state "$406.3 million over the budget projected a year ago." - In a highly competitive housing market, many buyers are willing to accept the risks of purchasing a home "as is," without a home inspection. Home buyer Deborah Jackson finally purchased a townhouse in Hooksett "after a year of looking at hundreds of properties across New England." She put in an offer that was "almost $100,000 above the asking price" and waived the home inspection to be able to compete with other buyers. "Waiving home inspections can pose both financial and safety risks," said Joseph Griffin, chairman of the state Board of Home Inspectors, which regulates the industry. But with few homes for sale, people are over-bidding, bringing cash to closings, and "just overpaying for houses." You can read more about this story here: (Subscription/The Union Leader)
- If you heard the distinct "rat-tat-tat" of an airplane engine Friday, it may have been from a WW II PT-23 Primary Trainer. The historic single-propeller plane left Dallas, Texas, and was headed to the CAF (Commemorative Air Force) hangar in Hampton, but had to land at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport "due to a low cloud deck in the Seacoast area," said Nick Infantino, 18, a member of the New England Commemorative Air Force; a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting aviation. The plane completed the last leg of its journey on Sunday. It was the aircraft’s first flight since 2016! You can read more about this story here: (Subscription / The Union Leader)
- You can see the original Wizard of Oz movie in theaters across the U.S. on Sunday, June 5, and Monday, June 6. The special screenings of the classic 1939 film are to honor what would have been Judy Garland's 100th birthday, according to a news release by Fathom Events.
