The helicopter used in the patrols have an infrared camera that can spot excessive heat on transmission line components. Identifying this allows the company to recognize components that may fail in the future and allows it to schedule a repair or replacement of those components, improving reliability, according to the Merrimack Police Department.
Police advised residents and those with horses or farm animals that may be sensitive to noise to be aware due to the helicopter noise.
