Man Arrested On Assault Charges In Merrimack

Merrimack police arrested a man Tuesday on three counts of simple assault and two counts of obstructing report of a crime.

MERRIMACK, NH — Police on Tuesday arrested a man and charged him with assaulting a victim and preventing them from reporting the incident to police. Robert Kempton, 62, is charged with three counts of simple assault and two counts of obstructing the report of a crime. All of the charges are misdemeanors.

Merrimack police say they received a report of an assault in progress at a local home. The incident was reported at approximately 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. When police arrived to the home, police determined that Kempton had assaulted the victim, police say. According to police, Kempton also had prevented the victim from calling the police by taking the phone away from them.

After Tuesday's arrest, Kempton was released on personal recognizance bail. His arraignment is scheduled for May 2 at Merrimack District Court.
