Merrimack Firefighters Respond To Basement Fire On Donovan Court

Crews from Amherst, Bedford, Manchester, and Nashua responded with mutual aid to assist; the fire in a townhouse was knocked down quickly.

MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack Fire Rescue received a call from a neighbor who could see flames in the basement of another townhouse on 28 Donovan Court on Saturday.

Firefighters responded around 7:45 p.m., and while en route, dispatch said the neighbor advised alarms were sounding, and they could smell smoke. Dispatch advised all occupants
to evacuate the adjacent units and await the arrival of firefighters.

When crews arrived, they called for a working fire, bringing mutual aid from Amherst, Bedford, Manchester, and Nashua. Fire crews entered the townhouse, located a fire in the basement, and worked to quickly knock it down with water. Police officers assisted in evacuating adjacent units while fire crews searched the fire building.

It was quickly verified no one was home in the fire building and the fire was extinguished in the basement. Crews opened windows, ejected smoke from the unit, and checked for any fire that may have extended into the walls.

Sources indicated there were a large amount of contents in the basement which caught on fire. The source and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Merrimack Fire Marshal’s Office.

No one was injured in the fire, and most of the fire units cleared about an hour after the initial dispatch.
