Merrimack High School Threat Suspect Identified

Merrimack police said a threatening note was directed at Merrimack High School, triggering a lockdown and massive officer response.

MERRIMACK, NH -- A threat was directed at Merrimack High School Thursday morning, triggering a lockdown and massive police response. A student discovered the threat in a note outside school property and passed it on to school administration, who notified police at about 8:40 a.m. Students and staff were locked inside rooms as officers responded to the scene.

The threat was later deemed not credible, according to Merrimack Police Captain Brian Levesque. The individual who made the threat was identified, school officials said. It was unclear if the individual is a student; police did not announce an arrest and Levesque said they are withholding further information about the case "at this time."

The lockdown order was issued "out of an abundance of caution," Levesque said in a statement.

Extra officers were posted at the school the rest of the school day Thursday as another precaution, Levesque said.
