Merrimack Water Rate To Increase By 19 Percent

Due to the increased budget to treat PFAS contamination in public wells, a 19-percent water rate increase is being proposed.

MERRIMACK, NH — The Merrimack Village District Commission is proposing a 19-percent increase to the town water rate. The increase would be due to the budget increase in the water district, which includes PFAS contamination treatment in the town's wells. The rate increase would be effective July 1.

The current water rate in Merrimack is $1.95 per 100 cubic feet of used water, and the proposal is to have it be $2.32 per 100 cubic feet, said Merrimack Village District Commission Chairman Don Provencher. The commission held a public hearing on the proposed rate on May 20, and no member of the public spoke.

A second public hearing on the proposed new water rate is scheduled for June 17.
