NY Man Facing Drug Charges in Merrimack

Joseph Sharkey was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Saturday.

A New York man was arrested on drug charges Saturday following a motor vehicle stop on Continental Boulevard.

Joseph Sharkey, 24, of 4 Peach Lake Drive, North Salem, NY is charged with operating after suspension, possession of marijuana and transportation of a controlled drug. He was released on $2,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in 9th Circuit District Division Court in Merrimack on March 11.

According to Merrimack Police, around 9:20 a.m. Saturday, they stopped a 1991 VW Golf for a speeding infraction on Continental Boulevard. The officer identified the driver as Sharkey, and upon checking his license status it was discovered that it was suspended out of New York. He was subsequently placed under arrest for operating after suspension. During the tow inventory of the vehicle, officers located a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle. Sharkey was then charged with possession of marijuana and transportation of a controlled drug.
