Occupants Escape Injury After Car Bursts Into Flames On The Everett Turnpike

After pulling over in Merrimack, the vehicle burst into flames; firefighters used saws to access the stubborn fire under the car's hood.

MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack firefighters, police, and New Hampshire State Police responded to a report of a vehicle fire on the F.E. Everett Turnpike North in the area of mile marker 13.8 Tuesday.

Merrimack police arrived at the scene and reported the car was fully engulfed and the occupants were out of the vehicle. Firefighters arrived and stretched hose lines and knocked down the bulk of the fire in the Toyota Camry. The fire continued to burn between the engine compartment and interior of the vehicle, firefighters attempted to open the car's hood for better access. The hood latch would not release, so firefighters used saws to cut through the hood to gain access to the fire. After the hood was removed from the vehicle, the fire was fully extinguished.

Three occupants in the vehicle told state police that they pulled over when they smelled something and the car caught fire a short time later.
