Police Release Name Of Man Killed In Back River Rd Motorcycle Crash

MERRIMACK, NH - Merrimack Fire and police responded to a report of an unresponsive person on the side of the road on Back River Road Saturday. While responding they were advised the person was a motorcyclist who had struck another vehicle head-on.

Responders arrived at the scene and found a 2006 Honda Motorcycle, operated by Joshua Danforth, 37 of Merrimack had been traveling South on Back River Road and crossed over the center line. The motorcycle struck a 2018 GMC pickup operated by Kimberly Hanscom, 52, of Merrimack who was traveling North according to Merrimack Police Sgt. Michael Lambert.

Danforth was determined to be deceased at the scene of the accident. Hanscom had minor injuries and was treated at the scene and did not require medical transport.

Hanscom who was operating the pick-up truck was visibly upset and evaluated by firefighters and EMS for minor injuries and did not require medical transport to the hospital.

The accident occurred in a sharp curve just north of the Bradford Woods and near Spring Pond Road. Based on preliminary information from witnesses the motorcycle appeared to not negotiate the curve, crossing into the path of the truck.

The woman operating the pick-up truck was visibly upset and evaluated by firefighters and EMS and refused transport to the hospital.

Merrimack Police with the assistance of Bedford Police shut down Back River Road while the accident is being investigated.

No details on the age of the victim are available, and no further information is anticipated while next of kin are notified.

This was the third accident that Merrimack Fire Rescue responded to within three hours.

The accident remains under investigation by the Merrimack Police Department.
