Monday Essentials: Selectmen Scheduled to Meet

1. I HAVE A DREAM: Wednesday is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, and there are many things happening throughout the state and nation to mark a big day in the nation's history. 

For instance, the University of New Hampshire will celebrate with an open public march from the Memorial Union Building to the Great Hall Lawn at 2 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a re-reading of the speech.

2. SELECTMEN TO MEET: Milford Selectmen will meet at Town Hall today at 5:30 p.m.

3. SCHOOL RETURNS THIS WEEK: Milford Schools will be back in session Wednesday for students kindergarten through freshmen. Sophomores, juniors and seniors will return Thursday.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1939, the first televised Major League baseball game is broadcast on station W2XBS, the station that was to become WNBC-TV. Announcer Red Barber called the game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York.

5. CHAMPIONS IN ACTION PROGRAM: Citizens Bank and the Union Leader are now accepting applications for their Champions in Action program.
