2 Firefighters Seriously Burned in NH Fire

The fire broke out in a chicken coop in Claremont on Sunday night.

Two firefighters were seriously injured when they got caught in a fire in Claremont on Sunday.

At 6:06 p.m. Sunday, the Claremont Fire Department received a 911 call from 8 Cherry Hill Road reporting a chicken coop fire with exposure to the house. The first fire company arrived on scene within minutes and reported heavy fire to the rear of the house and struck a first alarm.

The initial fire attack crew entered the home to extinguish the fire. Several minutes later a mayday call was made, which signifies that the entry crew is in trouble. The two firefighters who initiated the mayday call were able to get themselves back out of the structure within minutes. Both firefighters sustained serious burn injuries.

One firefighter was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and the other firefighter was transported to Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, VT. A third firefighter was treated and released at Valley Regional Hospital for a hand injury. The names of the injured firefighters are being withheld until families are notified.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and is assisting with the fire investigation.
