NASHUA - John T. "Jack" Cooney, 89, a resident of Nashua, passed away on Wednesday April 10, 2013 following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Virginia A. (Molloy) Cooney with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on May 19.
He was born in Lowell, MA on April 30, 1923 and was the son of Thomas F. and Loretta F. (Carroll) Cooney.
Jack was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II and in the Massachusetts National Guard from 1948 until his retirement in 1983. Prior to retiring he was the Logistics Program Director of the AF Geophysics Lab at Hanscom AFB in Middlesex, MA. After his retirement Jack worked as a commercial real estate broker for David Merrill Real Estate in Chelmsford and more recently as an Ombudsman for Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley at Willow Manor in Lowell, MA.
In addition to his loving wife, Jack is survived by his three children; Miki Cooney and her husband Ken Reed, John T. Cooney, Jr. and his wife Jaleh A. Cooney, and Maryanne V. Cooney Melley and her husband John V. Melley, Jr. He also had five grandchildren; Jessica, Rana, and Shannon Cooney and Caitlin and Sarah Melley.
Visiting hours Friday April 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford, Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Irene Parish, 181 East St., Carlisle, MA. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
