Rotary Club Awards $25,000 in Grants; Get Tix for Comedy Night Friday

On Monday June 17 Rotary Club of Nashua handed out more than $25,000 worth of community grants to several local agencies during their luncheon meeting.

Recipients were:

  • Adult Learning Center – $3,000 for their Family Connection Program; 
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua – $3,000 for their Mentors Training Program;
  • Bridges – $3,000 for a new roof on their emergency shelter; 
  • Nashua Soup Kitchen – $5,000 to renovate the front hall and porch areas of their transitional building which serves homeless families with children;
  • St Joseph’s Community Services/Meals on Wheels – $3,000 in funding for the Meals on Wheels program that provides meals for seniors and shut-ins;
  • Marguerite’s Place – $2,500 for their program for homeless women with children;
  • Gateway Community Services – $2,500 for their adult daycare service program;
  • Care Givers Inc – $3,000 for their Caring Cupboard program; and
  • Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua – $2,500 for their safe transportation program that serves over 300 youth! 

The Rotary Club of Nashua’s Community Grant Committee co-chairs, Mary Atwood and Dr Adrian Levesque made the presentations to the representatives of the grant winners.

The Rotary Club of Nashua has handed out more than $500,000 in community grants and scholarships over the past 10 years.  To raise the money to provide these funds the Club has several fundraisers through out the year which include its annual holiday auction (Oct/Nov), Christmas Tree sales, calendar sales and a comedy night. 

The Club’s annual comedy night is scheduled for this Friday, June 21 at the Radisson Hotel in Nashua.  The evening starts with a cocktail hour from 6-7 p.m. with the show stating at 7:05 p.m..  This year the Club has earmarked 50 percent of the net proceeds to be donated to the One Fund Boston to assist victims and families affected by the tragic events at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.
