Bald is Bodacious for These NH Roller Derby Stars

It's St. Baldrick's Day on Saturday, as six Roller Derby dames plan to shave their hair in support of kids with cancer.

Great post yesterday by New Hampshire Roller Derby, detailing the off-rink antics of six of their stand-out derby dames, who have all agreed to shave their hair in support of St. Baldrick's annual event that raises money for kids with cancer.

At the start of the  2013 season,  Chuck NU Around and Su McKenzie of the Queen City Cherry Bombs decided to join in with some of the ladies of Roc City Roller Derby in Rochester, N.Y. Before they traveled to play their opponents, Chuck and McKenzie helped raise funds for the nonprofit organization that's dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer through research. After that, NHRD as a whole decided St. Baldrick's would be the charity for the August bout.

You can read the full story here.

We wanted to thank the ladies by naming names, and discovered lots of Nashua pride in the bunch:

Mimi, aka Mimi Brown, is from Nashua, as is
Irate Pirate, aka Bethany Tozier and JC Superscar, aka Julia Cassidy.

Bash, aka Kelly Boyer, and Su McKenzie are from Manchester;
Chuck NU, aka Charlene Lundy, is from North Andover, Mass.

NHRD has already reached its league goal of  raising $5,000 for St. Baldrick's. You can continue to help by donating on line at www.stbaldricks.org/events/nhrollerderby. Or donate in person by attending the Aug. 24 bout, the last bout of the season, located at the JFK Coliseum, 303 Beech St., in Manchester, next to Gill Stadium.

Doors open at 4 p.m., whistle is at 5 p.m. Tickets at the door are $12 the day of the bout, children 10 and younger are free.

By the way: NHRD is always looking to add members to its growing family. For more information on becoming a skater, ref or nonskating official (NSO) or joining the new rec team, visit www.nhrollerderby.com or email info@nhrollerderby.com.
