Nashua Bomb Squad Responds to Suspicious Device

The device, which was eventually determined to be harmless, was found behind the Cider Mill convenience store on Route 101.

The Nashua Police Department's bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious device in Amherst on Thursday night.

According to a Nashua Police press release, the Amherst Fire Department requested a mutual aid response from the Nashua Police Department's Hazardous Device Unit around 8 p.m. Thursday. The Amherst fire and police departments had responded to a local business for a report of a suspicious item. The Union Leader reported that the business was the Cider Mill convenience store on Route 101.

The item was described as approximately six inches in length, heavily taped and emitting an audible sound. It was located on the trash dumpster for the business. After confirming with management and ownership that the item had no legitimate purpose, the Hazardous Device Unit initiated a response.

Upon arrival, the Hazardous Device Unit successfully disrupted the item, whereupon it was determined the item had no explosive content, was not a hazard and appeared to be an improperly disposed of anti-theft security item. Remnants of the item were turned over to the Amherst Police Department for any investigative furtherance.

Citizens are urged to contact their local law enforcement agency if items of a suspicious nature such as this are located.
