Building a Future at the Academy for Science and Design

[Nashua, NH, April 19, 2024] – The Academy for Science and Design (ASD) is thrilled to announce a generous donation from NorthPoint Construction, marking a monumental step in the school's journey towards establishing its "forever home" at 9 Townsend West. This generous contribution, totaling just over $180,000 in labor and materials, has played a pivotal role in the first phase of an ambitious project aimed at converting 137,000 square feet of commercial space into a state-of-the-art educational facility. “Without strong partners like NorthPoint Construction, achieving our mission would be much more difficult,” says ASD Board Chairman Rick Bartle, “The entire ASD community is grateful for the support of partners like NorthPoint Construction.”

This donation not only represents NorthPoint’s ongoing commitment to supporting education but also highlights their adaptability and dedication to meeting the unique needs of Charter Schools across the state. This first phase of construction faced numerous challenges, particularly in adhering to stringent fire safety and other regulations essential for student safety. NorthPoint Construction, led by CEO Gary Thomas, worked closely with ASD, offering innovative solutions and flexible payment plans, ensuring that the school could continue to provide essential resources and books for students, alongside meeting operational demands.

The renovation of 9 Townsend West is only the beginning. Plans are already underway for a smaller Phase 2 in the summer of 2024, which will add additional classrooms and make further enhancements to the building. Looking ahead to the summer of 2025, ASD anticipates a more extensive facility upgrade focusing on modernizing the current labs to a state-of-the-art level, further advancing the school's mission to provide a high-quality STEM education..

NorthPoint Construction and Gary Thomas have been long-standing supporters of the Academy for Science and Design as well as charter schools across New Hampshire. Regarding his ongoing dedication to this effort, Thomas shared, “In 2011 NorthPoint Construction began the relationship with ASD Academy and the entire world of charter schools. ASD holds a very special place in our hearts as we have worked together for 13 years! We have since aligned ourselves with Charter schools and the education ‘option’ it provides for the young minds in our state. We love being involved through the business and personally,” says Thomas, “ My wife and I continue to support charter schools and the education that these institutions offer. Given our history with ASD and other charters we were very honored to be a part of this relocation project. It has been very heartwarming to see the success and continued growth of ASD. We are so proud to be involved!”
