Chief Steve Buxton Sworn In As Chief Of Nashua Fire Rescue

NASHUA, NH - Nashua Fire Commissioner Paul Garant swore in NFR Assistant Chief Steve Buxton as the newly appointed Fire Chief of Nashua. NFR Chief Brian Rhodes recently announced his retirement after serving Nashua for 35 years.

The Buxton family is well known in the fire profession, and in communities in southern New Hampshire. Buxton’s father Michael Buxton was Chief of the Nashua Fire Rescue and was part of the department for 33 years. Steve’s brother, Rob Buxton is currently the Fire Chief of Hudson Fire.

Chief Buxton began his career with Nashua Fire Rescue in 1996 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2004. In 2013 he was promoted to Captain, Deputy Chief in 2018, and Assistant Chief in 2020.

Acting Assistant Chief Bill Atkinson will be officially sworn in on March 6. He said Buxton leads from the same level as the rank and file firefighters, working shoulder to shoulder with them.
