The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded by an interracial group of prominent citizens in 1909 in New York City. Few Americans today understand the extent of institutional racism in the early years of the 20th century in America. The Manchester branch of the NAACP founded in 1964 continues this work of struggle against all forms of discrimination and unfair treatment whether social, legal or political.
The Manchester NAACP – Education Committee hosts a workshop on “Occupying Privilege, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 12:00pm – 3:00pm., at the YWCA 72 Concord Street, Downtown Manchester NH. We encourage “everyday White people” who care and are courageous to join us in a dialogue about white skin privilege. Author JLove Calderon will present information to inspire discussion and action towards eliminating injustice. JLove is widely respected for her advocacy of “truth, love, and freedom” as guiding principles. Her latest book “Occupying Privilege” will be available for purchase.
There will be food and fellowship from 12 -1 p.m. and the workshop will begin immediately after from 1-2:30pm. There is a $10 donation to cover food and workshop materials. Workshop partially funded by grant from Haymarket Peoples Foundation. Hope to see you there.
