Cat Dies in Nashua Fire

The building has been deemed uninhabitable due to heavy smoke and fire damage.

Firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire in a Nashua mobile home on Thursday afternoon.

The initial call for a fire at 20 Trout Brook Drive came in around 12:30 p.m., according to emergency radio broadcasts. Heavy fire and smoke was reportedly showing from the roof of the home, with occupants possibly trapped inside.

Deputy Chief Michael O'Brien said the first crews arriving had heavy fire and smoke conditions showing. They made entry into the structure and immediately began trying to extinguish the fire while also conducting a primary search.

They found a cat and a dog, but no human occupants. The cat did not survive, but the dog made it out and was partially revived at the scene by firefighters. It is now in the care of a veterinarian.

O'Brien said the damage to the building was "extensive." He said it has been classified as uninhabitable and has been closed off by the city Building Department.

The building was occupied by one man and O'Brien said the Red Cross is working to find him temporary lodging.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
